Classic or Skating. In the Davos Klosters region, cross-country skiing enthusiasts can fully indulge their passion: on the diverse trails in Davos and the surrounding area, everyone can find their rhythm – from beginners to professionals.
Those who want to start the winter season in top form can join a power training with Dario Cologna, the Swiss cross-country skiing champion. Train like an Olympian! Cologna demonstrates his favorite exercises at different difficulty levels:
Dario Cologna, who grew up in Graubünden, became the first Swiss to win the overall Cross-Country World Cup in the 2008/09 season. He also won multiple Olympic gold medals, World Championship medals, and several victories in the Tour de Ski and the overall World Cup standings. Who knows – you might even encounter him on one of the many trails in Davos!
Did you know that an early season start for cross-country skiing is possible in late autumn thanks to snow farming? Since 2008, snow has been collected into piles and covered with sawdust. This preserves 70–80% of the snow for the upcoming winter season, which can then be used to prepare the trails, even before temperatures are low enough to produce new snow.
The cross-country trails are used by both competitive athletes and recreational skiers. This also makes it possible to host two of Davos’ top events: the SonntagBlick Cross-Country Fun Event and the FIS World Cup.
